King & Spalding
A Unique Gift for King & Spalding
An SPR Client Case Study
When international developer Hines asked SPR Atlanta to develop a “housewarming” gift for law firm King & Spalding for its new home at 1180 Peachtree, we knew we had to think outside of the box. Hines had developed the Midtown tower at the corner of 14th and Peachtree streets after working to convince the law firm to move to the area instead of downtown.
SPR know that our clients want great ideas from us above all, and we use our creativity to help position them in the marketplace. We were able to create a unique gift, using a slice of the tree that King & Spalding firm co-founder Jack Spalding (also Chris Schroder’s great-grandfather) had planted at the same corner in 1892, when he built his residence there. The 120-year-old trees were being removed from the site, and SPR developed a great ongoing use for them.
We were able to use a slice of the tree as a history lesson of the firm and city, with lines pointing to the rings of the tree that correlated to the same year. An impressive display, including photographs and content, was created using three Plexiglas panels that hung in front of the tree slice.
The “housewarming” gift from Hines was very well received and still hangs in King & Spalding’s lobby today. It’s a convenient history for King & Spalding lawyers, young and old.
We even earned an American Graphic Design Award for our efforts!
