June’s Don’t Miss Atlanta Events
June 2017’s event roundup includes a live podcast taping, a breakfast celebrating women in technology and a deep dive into the growth Midtown and downtown.

Panel will sit down with former President and COO of Chick-Fil-A Jimmy Collins to discuss coming from humble beginnings, beginning to work as a delivery boy at age 12, to running one of Georgia’s most beloved institutions. In partnership with Women in Technology, General Assembly is hosting a Women in Tech breakfast Friday June 9 at General Assembly in Ponce City Market. The event is free.
If you’re spilling over with ideas, but don’t know how to create an action plan, attend General Assembly’s Anatomy of an Idea event Thursday July 9. The event will teach a four-step process to “experience the anatomy of an idea,” which includes the brain, the eyes, the hands and the feet. Takeaways from the event include building criteria to filter ideas, practicing building a prototype and creating a 30-day action plan to stress test your idea. The event is $35.
Social Media Strategy Mapping on Friday June 16 will take attendees through a six-step methodology that will provide an actionable social plan for social media accounts. The $50 course will discuss KPIs, elevator pitches, social platforms, content calendars and more.
Learn more about Midtown and Downtown, “Atlanta’s dynamic districts,” Wednesday July 19 at 7:30. Topics will include MARTA, TSPLOST, art institutions, investments and growth. It is a “must-attend for anyone who is curious about what to expect next in these dynamic districts: members of the community, investors, owners & developers, lenders, brokers, architects, general contractors, vendors and press to the industry.” Central Atlanta Progress President AJ Robinson and Midtown Alliance President CEO Kevin Green will participate in a fireside chat, and panelists include representatives from City of Atlanta, Paces Properties, The Trillist Companies and more. The downtown venue has not been announced yet. Tickets are $85.
Switchyards Downtown Club
As long as Atlanta continues fostering a vibrant startup community, Switchyards will continue having its monthly Consumer Show. The Consumer Show highlights five startups and each one will present their business for five minutes. Then – to foster community support – each startup will spend a few minutes on two topics. The first is what the community can do to help their startup the most? The second is what they’ve done really well, so what they could give back to other consumer startups? July’s event is Thursday July 6. The event is free and at Switchyards.
See you next month!
